NEW: EPL 'Considers' Huge Points Deduction Decision

NEW: EPL 'Considers' Huge Points Deduction Decision

The Premier League is reportedly considering a huge points deduction decision, with Manchester City likely to be impacted.

Reports in England suggest the Premier League is planning significant changes to its current financial rules, which could see Pep Guardiola's City being handed a much-needed lifeline.

Amid the seriousness of the alleged economic breaches the Citizens are facing, the points deduction punishments handed out to Everton and Nottingham Forest earlier this season left many believing the treble champions could be kicked out of the league.

City are accused of 115 breaches, but the EPL is reportedly prepared to revise its the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which could see points deductions being removed and a "luxury tax" introduced.

It is said there is a feeling among the division and its leading clubs that points deductions are unfair, and that forcing teams wanting to compete with the Premier League's traditional top six to sell their best players could hurt the league's standing.

Clubs such as Newcastle United and Aston Villa have spent significant cash over the past two campaigns, and there was concern that they would both need to make significant sales in order to stay in line with the EPL's PSR.

The new proposed idea would mean teams in the Premier League are able to spend freely but then pay a luxury tax for any overspending rather than be punished by way of a points deduction.

Reports claim that 17 of the current 20 clubs in the division are in favour of the proposed changes, with only 17 votes required for a reform to be taken further.
