A former Al Ahly star-turned-journalist has provided the latest regarding the contract negotiations currently ongoing between the club and Percy Tau.

The South African winger is approaching the final year of his current deal at the Cairo International Stadium, and there has been a tremendous amount of conjecture as to whether or not he will stay on in the Egyptian capital.
The Witbank has won a total of nine major honours since joining the Club of the Century, and while he has played a major role in helping the club win those titles, Tau and the club seem to be struggling to reach an agreement on a new deal.
Former Ahly star Ahmed Shobeir has now revealed that while the 30-year-old recently expressed his willingness to stay at the club for a cut price, the club is still considering what to do with him.
"Percy Tau has a strong desire to stay at Al Ahly Club, and the player may submit an offer to reduce his salary if necessary," Shobeir said on Egyptian radio, as per 365 Kora.

"Al Ahly needs a player in the right-wing position during the current summer transfer window, especially in light of Al Ahmar officials not deciding Tau's fate with the team yet."
While it remains to be seen whether or not the club will replace Tau, one star player they are actively trying to find a replacement for Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul.
The defender injured his Achilles heel during the first leg of the CAF Champions League final, and is expected to be out for six months.
Shobeir added that while they are looking to find a replacement, the club still consider him an important player.

"Maaloul will remain an important part in the ranks of Al Ahly club, despite rumours of his departure from the team due to the approaching contract with Moroccan international Yahya Attiya Allah," he continued.
"Al Ahly intends to renew Maaloul's contract during the coming period, but he may be removed from the initial team list due to injury. To be registered again after recovery."
