A former Kaizer Chiefs-linked attacker has been officially released by Josef Zinnbauer’s JS Kabylie just days before the start of the new Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 season.

Last season, the Glamour Boys struggled in front of goal. Despite creating numerous chances, one of the team’s biggest shortcomings was their inability to convert opportunities. Chiefs scored only 25 league goals in the 2024/25 campaign, making them the eighth most prolific side in the South African top flight.
During the season, the club were rumoured to be in the market for a new attacker to sharpen their attack. While they eventually secured the signings of Makabi Lilepo and Tashreeq Morris, one forward who was believed to be on their radar was Walter Bwalya.
Soccer Laduma previously reported that the Soweto giants were keen on signing the Democratic Republic of Congo international, who was among several targets considered. However, the deal never materialised as the striker opted to join Algerian giants JS Kabylie, now under the tutelage of former Orlando Pirates boss Josef Zinnbauer.
Bwalya’s time in Algeria has now come to an abrupt end. Having scored just two goals and registered one assist for the Canaries last season, the club appear to have lost faith in the Lubumbashi-born forward and have since decided to part ways with the 30-year-old.

It remains to be seen where the former Al Ahly striker will end up next. A move to Naturena, however, looks unlikely following Chiefs’ recent acquisitions of forwards such as Flavio Silva and Etiosa Ighodaro.
