The AFL is Africa's latest interclub competition, and while the Red Devils have been at their strongest in the continent's traditional premier tournament, the CAF Champions League, they could not translate their historic success to the inaugural instalment of new showpiece.

Marcel Koller's side were eliminated by Mamelodi Sundowns in the AFL semi-finals by a goal from Thapelo Maseko in the first leg of the encounter.

That strike gave the DStv Premiership champions a 1-0 lead going into the return fixture in Cairo.

With the record Egyptian title holders unable to find the back of the net in the second leg, the Tshwane-based side went on to be crowned champions.

For making it as far as the final four, Club of the Century is set to receive $1.7 million (R32 million).

According to Yallakora, however, the north African giants have received only $1.35 (R25 million), with CAF paying the latest instalment of $350 000 (R6 million) earlier this week.
