Earlier this week, the Soweto giants announced that their opponents for the second edition of the competition would be the West African outfit. The sides are set to meet on 26 July at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, marking the first time the two clubs will face each other in over two decades.
Last year’s edition of the tournament featured Tanzanian record champions Young Africans SC, but this time the Glamour Boys have lined up another historically significant continental side as part of their preparations for the new Betway Premiership campaign.
Like Chiefs, Asante Kotoko also achieved cup success last season, lifting the Ghanaian FA Cup for a 10th time. They are now aiming to build on that triumph by expanding their global reach — starting with a high-profile clash against Nasreddine Nabi’s side.
During the fixture announcement, Kotoko’s interim chairperson, Edmund Awuah Asafu-Adjaye, expressed his pride at the opportunity to participate in such an encounter.
“It is with great joy and anticipation that we come to South Africa for the 2025 edition of the Toyota Cup. Football has always been a powerful bridge between people and nations, and this event shows what is possible when sport is supported by vision and purpose,” said Asafu-Adjaye, as per Ghanasoccernet.com.
