An Al Ahly star claims the side's humiliating 5-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2018/2019 season changed the history of the club.
The Red Devils recently celebrated their 12th Champions League crown after defeating Esperance in the final, making back-to-back seasons with continental glory.
Al Ahly have not been on the receiving end of a lot of hammerings in Africa, but they were humbled by Pitso Mosimane's Sundowns after losing 5-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final clash.

Al Ahly midfielder Karim Walid claims the big loss to Sundowns was pivotal for the club's fortunes.
"I thank the Board of Directors for being patient with the current generation after losing by five to Sundowns and supporting them until they reached the current stage of achievements," he told the club's television channel Al Ahly TV, per FilGoal.
"This match changed Al Ahly's history and was the real beginning for this generation of players."
The Red Devils midfielder also spoke about the players having a good mentality to understand the coach's instructions.
"A good character is essential for any footballer, we accept the coach's decisions because he shoulders the ultimate responsibility," he said.
"The African Super Cup is a vital match, but the date is still unclear, for now, all our efforts are concentrated on the league, especially with the intense competition from Pyramids," Walid noted.
