‘Mosimane Gave Us Confidence To Win’

Former Al Ahly Coach Pitso Mosimane

Al Ahly forward Hussein El Shahat revealed why former Red Devils boss Pitso Mosimane was a key factor in the club's 2020 CAF Champions League win.

El Shahat has been a key member of the Al Ahly squad since he joined the team in January 2019. Having won countless trophies under many managers before, it was Mosimane's influence that he highlighted following the team's victory against Zamalek in the CAF Champions League final, Yallakora reported.

"I was anxious when I hit the post, but I trusted in God that we wouldn’t return feeling sad," El Shahat said. "I felt reassured when our boy Zizo hit the crossbar."

He added: "Mosimane used to train us on many things that we expected would happen during the match against Zamalek, and he gave us the confidence that we had the ability to win."

The Egyptian looked ahead to the new season with confidence as former Orlando Pirates boss Jose Riveiro and he revealed his excitement about the Red Giant's new signings, as well as offering praise to the current level of the squad.

"All of Al Ahly's signings are valuable additions to the team," he said. "I’ve loved Mahmoud Trezeguet for a long time—even before he joined Al Ahly. We’ve shared many moments together, and he’s a great addition to the team. I'm happy he’s with us."

The former Al-Ain forward revealed the one Al Ahly player he wished he could have played alongside.

"I always wished to play with (Mohamed) Aboutrika, the beloved star of the Egyptian people," he said.

"He’s a huge name, and I love him dearly. I wish I could play a match with him and receive an assist from him. His biggest strength is his constant smile. He could take you straight to goal in a second," he added.
