The Witbank native is understood to be approaching the final year of his current deal in the Egyptian capital, which is set to expire in June 2025.
Being a prominent player for the Red Devils since his arrival from Brighton Hove Albion in 2021, especially during their successful 2022/23 campaign when they were crowned Egyptian Premier League and CAF Champions League champions, Ahly boss Marcel Koller is believed to be keen to retain his talisman's services.
Talks have been ongoing between the club and the attacker in recent weeks over an extension, but reports recently claimed that negotiations had hit a snag over the 29-year-old's salary demands.
Now, it seems a breakthrough in talks has taken place as, according to One3 News, the Club of the Century are now edging closer to reaching a new agreement with the 2023 CAF Men's Interclub Player of the Year that would see his salary increase to $1 million (R18.8 million) a season.

The same report claims that this would be an increase on the $800 000 (R15 million) he was receiving, and that he will also see an annual increase in salary for every year until the suggested new deal ends, which is said to be in 2027.
