Agent Sets Record Straight About Ex-Sundowns Star’s 'Return' To Al Ahly

Luis Miquissone

With reports suggesting that a former Mamelodi Sundowns star is readying a return to Al Ahly, Soccer Laduma can confirm the latest regarding the attacker's future.

Official: Morocco Will Not Defend African Nations Championship Title

Earlier this week, it was reported that Mozambique international Luis Miquissone had his season-long loan deal with Saudi Arabian side Abha terminated early and would subsequently return to his parent club in the Egyptian capital.

The 27-year-old seems to have fallen out of favour in Cairo and the move to the Middle East was perhaps an opportunity for the pacey winger to regain the form that made him such a household name on the continent. However, that has not been the case.

Four months after being taken to the Saudi Pro League by Sven Vandenbroeck, his former head coach at Tanzanian giants Simba SC, the attacker has seen his loan stint cut short.

During his time at Abha, Miquissone started only two of the four games he played in, and has not made a matchday squad since 16 December.

Lack of game time led to the loan ending prematurely, and while the Red Devils are the forward's parent club, Miquissone's agent, Thato Matuka, has confirmed that the 47-time capped international would not be returning to the home of the record CAF Champions League winners, and is looking for a new team for the rest of the season.

"Luis [Miquissone] was not getting much game time so the parties mutually agreed to part ways," Matuka told Soccer Laduma.

"If you are on loan and you are not getting game time, it defeats the purpose. So, both parties have now agreed to part ways and we're currently looking for a new side.

"What is not true is his return to Ahly. He's not with Ahly at the moment as he is looking for a new side."

The Egyptian Premier League log leaders have also filled their quota for foreign players, making a return for the forward unlikely.

The southern African could, however, prolong his stay on the Asian continent, with two more Saudi Pro League sides rumoured to be interested in Miquissone's services.
