African Giants 'Want' To Lure Nigeria Boss Away From AFCON Finalists

African Giants 'Want' To Lure Nigeria Boss Away From AFCON Finalists

Nigeria boss Jose Peseiro has reportedly overtaken Carlos Queiroz as the leading candidate to become the new head coach for the Algeria national team.

With the appointment of an ex-Bafana Bafana coach now unlikely, Algeria reportedly see current Nigeria boss Jose Peseiro as a prime candidate to become their new head coach after his team reached the Africa Cup of Nations final.

According to DZ Foot, while Carlos Queiroz had previously been mooted to be a potential candidate to succeed Djamel Belmadi, the Algerian Football Federation (AFF) instead see Peseiro as the man to become the new head coach of the Desert Foxes.

The same report claims that the north Africans did contact former Real Madrid tactician Queiroz, but due to his exorbitant salary request, coupled with other demands he is not eager to waiver on, the two-time African champions have decided to turn their attention to another Portuguese boss.

Despite being under tremendous scrutiny from the Nigerian public prior to the commencement of the 2023 AFCON, Peseiro has seen his reputation increase tremendously in the context of African football since, and it is believed AFF president Walid Said is a big fan of the ex-Al Ahly boss after he led the Super Eagles to their 10th continental showpiece final.

It is said the Coruche native is still under contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, who are said to still owe Peseiro a large sum of money, but Said is believed to be making a strong case for the recently established ad hoc commission set up by the AFF to appoint Peseiro as their new national team coach after his salary issue in west Africa is resolved.
