The 29-year-old was on the losing side in Yaounde on Sunday night, when Egypt lost to Senegal in a penalty shootout after the game ended 0-0 in extra-time.
Salah cut a frustrated figure for most of the evening at the Paul Biya Stadium, particularly during a first-half interaction with match official Gomes as he protested a yellow card that one of his teammates had received.
The Egyptian, captain of the side, approached the Johannesburg-born referee but was met by a headstrong Gomes, who sarcastically offered Salah his cards and whistle before reportedly asking him, according to Planet Football: "Do you want to referee?"
