Asamoah Gyan Slams Ghana Bad-Boy For Public Rant After AFCON Failure

Asamoah Gyan Slams Ghana Bad-Boy For Public Rant After AFCON Failure

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has slammed a former teammate after he publicly criticised the Black Stars' AFCON campaign, insisting the suspended star should shut up because he never sacrificed himself for the team.

The African giants reached the AFCON semi-final for a record-breaking sixth consecutive time but weren't able to end their 34-year long trophy draught after losing 2-0 to eventual winners Cameroon.

Ghana bad boy Kevin-Prince Boateng, who has been suspended from his national team since the 2014 FIFA World Cup, subsequently claimed on Twitter that fourth-place wasn't good enough for the Black Stars.

However, Ghana captain Gyan was disappointed to hear such criticism from his former teammate and hit right back at the outspoken midfielder.

"He has betrayed his own colleagues with that tweet," Gyan told a local radio station, as quoted by Ghanasoccernet.

"He might be right. I was expecting someone outside the team to come out with these comments and not Kevin-Prince Boateng.

"Ghana deserves better. Fine, we the players know that Ghana deserves better. From what I have seen, Kevin Prince Boateng has never sacrificed for this Ghana national team.

"I respect Kevin Prince Boateng so much for the kind of player he is, but that comment he made surprises and amazes me. I was not expecting that from him."

Despite criticising Boateng, Gyan himself apologised to Ghana's fans via a video message from his own Twitter account.
