Bucs Star Named MOTM As Namibia Qualify For Last 16

Deon Hotto was named Man of the Match as Namibia qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations Last 16 after a goalless draw against Group E winners Mali.

Both sides had their fate in their hands, with Mali entering the clash top of the group while Namibia knew only a win would help them qualify for the next round.

Peter Shalulile lead the Namibian attack once again, while Mali welcomed back Yves Bissouma into the midfield after he started on the bench against Tunisia over the weekend. This was the third ever meeting between the two nations, with Mali having record two wins over Namibia in the qualifiers for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Eagles were the more dominant team in the first half but they had to wait until the 21st minute for a sight at goal, as Fousseni Diabate forced goalkeepr Lloyd Kazapua into a fine save.

The best chance of the half arrived seven minutes later when Lassine Sinayoko failed to steer home header from point-blank ranger and instead sent his header wide with only Kazapua.

Mali re-shuffled the pack in the second half by introducing Ibrahim Sissoko and Kamory Doumbia, as they looked to give a run out to some of the fringe players.

However, the second stanza would mirror the first as both sides struggled to carve out clear-cut chances.

The encounter finished goalless but both sides booked their spot in the round of 16, as Mali won the group while Namibia advanced to the knockout for the first-time in their history as one of the best third-place finishers.
