AFCON Participants Jump In FIFA Rankings

10) Morocco (48th overall, +9)

FIFA has released the latest world rankings and many African sides climbed up the table following the 2017 AFCON, with Africa now having one representative in the top 25.

Both AFCON finalists made massive jumps and while 2017 champions Cameroon were the biggest climbers – plus 29 spots into 33rd position – Egypt are now the highest ranked CAF side in 23rd overall.

Bafana Bafana's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification opponents Senegal climbed two spots into 33rd position, while Tunisia remained in 36th.

DR Congo climbed 12 places into 37th position, while AFCON's third-placed side Burkina Faso jumped a massive 15 spots and now sit in 38th place.

Despite not participating in the tournament in Gabon, Nigeria climbed nine positions into 41st.

Ivory Coast were the biggest losers following their AFCON group stage failure, dropping a massive 13 spots, and now sit in 47th position.

Morocco climbed nine spots into 48th position, while Algeria lost 11 places and now sit in 50th spot overall.

South Africa, who didn't partake in the AFCON, lost two spots, while further down the ranking Zimbabwe also dropped by two places and now sit in 105th position.

There was no movement among the top 10 highest ranked nations with Argentina leading ahead of Brazil and Germany.
