AFCON: Ivory Coast Stars Rewarded With Money & Houses

Following their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, Ivory Coast's players are believed to have been rewarded with money and houses by the country's president.

The Elephants came from behind to beat Nigeria 2-1 in the AFCON final on home soil this past Sunday after goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller.

Picking up their third AFCON title, Ivory Coast's road to success was far from conventional as it included the sacking of Jean-Louis Gasset mid-tournament.

Interim manager Emerse Fae was able to inspire the team to a remarkable turnaround as the hosts beat Senegal, Mali and DR Congo before their victory over the Super Eagles in the decider.

As reported by the BBC on Tuesday, president Alassane Ouattara has given each member of the squad $82 000 (R1.5 million) and they will also be handed a villa worth a similar amount.

The publication claims these perks are in addition to Ivory Coast's federation earning $7 million (R133 million) for the team's efforts.

These announcements were made at the presidential palace on Tuesday as the country's celebrations continued following Sunday's result.
