Burkina Faso

Africa Cup of Nations - Group A

Result: Guinea-Bassau 0-2 Burkina Faso

Date: 22 January 2017

Venue: Stade de Franceville

Burkina Faso progressed to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations, after defeating Guinea-Bassau 2-0 in their final Group A encounter.

The Stallions broke the deadlock after 11 minutes as Prejuce Nakoulma slotted home from close range, after an error from Bassua defence.

The first half proved to be a scrappy affair, as neither side could hold on to the ball, while clear-cut chances were hard to come by for both sides.

Nonetheless, the score remained 1-0 to Stallions as the sides entered the halftime break, while Bassau failed to mount any serious attempts at goal.

Burkina Faso doubled their lead 10 minutes into the second half, as Bertrand Traore calmly slotted home from close range, after a fine run.

Bassau opted for a change after 65 minutes as Abel Camara replaced Piqueti, while Blati Toure replaced Alain Traore for the Stallions.

Camara nearly pulled a goal back for Camara in the 75th minute, but his skewed his effort wide of the upright from close range.

Burkina Faso managed to see off a late surge from Guine-Bassau, as they clinch a spot in the quarterfinals.
