Thamsanqa Gabuza's contract with Orlando Pirates is set to expire come the end of the season, but here is why the club should cave into his demands.
It was recently revealed by the Siya crew that the player is reportedly unhappy with the two-year extension Pirates have offered him, and he is presumably eager to secure a bigger wage package instead.
Pirates are known to keep their salary budgets quite tight, and it's very rare that they would splurge a couple hundred thousand rands on a player each month. However, Kermit Erasmus' exit has left the club in a catch-22 situation.
With "KE95" having left last week for Stade Rennais, Pirates only have Tendai Ndoro, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Gabuza at their disposal in terms of experienced strikers.
The latter is the only one who has performed consistently this past year, but even he has struggled to find the back of the net regularly, scoring just two goals domestically this season.
Majoro has failed to mirror the form he enjoyed when coming off the bench for Pirates during the 2014/15 campaign, while Ndoro hasn't been the great signing many had hoped he would be.
Gabuza's exploits in Africa proved what an asset he can be for the club, and with Erasmus now in France, it only makes sense for Pirates to do everything they can to retain the hitman's services.
It's no secret that losing Erasmus has left a massive void in the team, but losing Gabuza on top of that would leave the club with a what would seem to be a non-existent attacking line-up.
It seems the only safe option would be to secure Gabuza's services for whatever fee necessary.
