At 10pm last night, the Carling Black Label Cup votes were counted and from a Kaizer Chiefs point of view, one name sticks out like a sore thumb among the rest. David Zulu was the preferred striker chosen by the fans, alongside Bernard Parker in attack.
Zulu has hardly convinced the Chiefs fans of what he can do in the iconic gold and black strip. With the fans choosing him over the likes of Siphelele Mthembu, Bongani Ndulula and Camaldine Abraw, one can conclude that they are yearning to see Zulu in action.
Let's not forget that the Amakhosi fans are a straight forward bunch, and will hold nothing back when making their feelings known. Last season, Kingston Nkhatha and Matthew Rusike felt the wrath of this, falling victim to the boo boys often.
If the fans were unconvinced about the player, they would not have voted for Zulu in the first place, but we find his name on the starting team sheet for the CBL cup.
Also, most fans remember Zulu for the wonder goal he scored against Orlando Pirates whilst playing for Chippa United in the previous campaign. Daydreams of that superb solo effort may often occur, and fans want to see the same type of promise being shown in a Chiefs kit.
Zulu also may have to take this chance with both hands, because the CBL initiative often gives the impression of who the fans want to see, as opposed to whom the coach will trust going into the Premier Soccer League campaign.
It remains to be seen who coach Steve Komphela will choose as his main striker in the new season, but there is a certain level of faith shown in Zulu by the Chiefs fans - so it is up to him to repay them.
Is this the last chance for Zulu to convince the Chiefs fans?
