Since Senzo Meyiwa's announcement as Bafana Bafana captain, a big debate has erupted on Soccer Laduma's Twitter and social media platforms about who the better goalkeeper is.
Soccer Laduma journalist, David Minchella, made his feelings clear (@DavidLaduma), saying, "I'll be honest, I don't have as much faith in Meyiwa as I do in Khune. But, all the best to Senzo against Sudan!"
Passionate SL reader, Nkosinathi 66, fired back, "Ask yourself as a football journo how in your head you couldn't you trust a keeper who's been in a Caf Champions League Final, as well as five domestic cup finals in a row?"

It seems this argument is firmly dividing the camps of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans. The Amakhosi fans swear by 'Itu', whereas the Bucs faithful see 'Nzori' as the best keeper in Mzansi.
A check of the stats shows that Chiefs have conceded the least amount of goals in the Absa Premiership since Stuart Baxter's arrival in 2012/13 – this means Khune scores points against Meyiwa.
However, Meyiwa was in goal as he helped guide Pirates to the brink of South African club football's greatest achievement in modern times by nearly winning the Caf Champions League in 2013. This means Bucs' number one strikes back at 'Itu'.
High profile mistakes must also be counted against their record. Khune got caught underneath the ball for a goal Morocco scored from a corner in the Afcon in 2013. It could've cost Bafana qualification to the next round, until May Mahlangu and Siyabonga Sangweni saved his blushes.
Meyiwa arguably lost the Soweto derby for Pirates in 2013/14, when he allowed Willard Katsande to head in from a position on his goal-line.

So, while both men have their strengths and weaknesses, the debate about who the best keeper is surely going to remain divided. Nonetheless, with Khune now injured for at least six weeks, Meyiwa has a huge opportunity to establish himself as the nation's number one. How he performs tonight against Sudan will go a long way to establishing who Mzansi's best keeper really is.
