Steve Komphela is a man in demand and, in particular, with Soweto’s giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. Will Amakhosi and Bucs go to war over securing his signature?
The philosophical coach is someone who has done exceptionally well wherever he has gone, but he is yet to be tested with one of the major clubs in South Africa.
It seems Komphela’s time has come to launch himself onto the big stage, as reports in Soccer Laduma have suggested that the coach may face a difficult decision ahead of next season.
Orlando Pirates have long been linked with a new coach, as Eric Tinkler was brought in as an interim tactician until the end of this current campaign, and there is yet to be any confirmation that he will stay on ahead of next term.
Chiefs, meanwhile, have an excellent coach at their disposal in Stuart Baxter, but whether or not he remains on the Gold and Black bench next season is a question that is yet to be answered.
In all honesty, Komphela seems to be the perfect candidate to succeed both Tinkler and Baxter, and it will be interesting to see how these two clubs will battle to secure his services if it comes to that.
Which club do you think would win the battle for Komphela’s services – Pirates or Chiefs?
