Kerr Reveals What Happened At Marumo Gallants

Dylan Kerr

Dylan Kerr, the recently departed coach of Marumo Gallants, has clarified that contrary to reports, he never had a formal three-year contract with the club.

Kerr's latest tenure at the club ended abruptly just weeks after rejoining, following the club's acquisition of the top flight status of Moroka Swallows.

In a revealing interview on Sports Night Amplified with Andile, Kerr expressed his frustrations with the club's management and the direction they wanted to take.

"Look, the chairman knows who I am and knows what I can do, sorry… the president. When he asked me to come back because we were talking for a couple of weeks before he purchased Swallows and that was it really," Kerr told Sports Night Amplified with Andile.

The coach highlighted that while there was a verbal agreement for his return, a formal contract was never finalised.

"I said, 'yeah, we have to do things right because you've invested a lot of money in this'. A three-year contract... we never discussed a contract. I never saw a contract, and like I said, yesterday we had a meeting.

"And I didn't feel it was the right move for me to go in the direction that they wanted and when he sent me a message last night, we had a good chat and I said, 'chairman, I think we just need to go our ways separately'. And that was it.

"It was a verbal agreement when I came, obviously the contract never materialised. But it is what it is. I said I don't want to speak about anything because it's between me and my chairman," Kerr continued.

The decision to leave was influenced by disagreements over the club's proposed co-coaching structure and issues related to player signings. Kerr's departure underscores the challenges and complexities often faced in football management, where coaching philosophies and club strategies must align to ensure success.

Despite these challenges, Kerr's track record in South African football remains notable.

As Marumo Gallants prepare for their upcoming season, which will see them playing their home matches in Bloemfontein, they are set to face Kaizer Chiefs in the Betway Premiership opener next month. The club has since confirmed Dan Malesela as their new head coach.
