Chiefs Defender Could Leave For Free

With just a few months remaining on his current contract, Kaizer Chiefs could lose one of their youth development products for free, as two PSL clubs are interested in his services.

Siya sources close to Amakhosi have indicated that SuperSport United and AmaZulu FC have shown interest in left back Happy Mashiane, whose contract at the club is believed to be expiring in June 2025.

The insiders added that SuperSport United were the first to inquire about Mashiane, but now AmaZulu FC have also joined the race as they want to beef up their squad.

"There is interest in Happy (Mashiane). Actually two clubs have inquired about him. SuperSport United inquired about him at the start of the season but noting came out of that. They only have Neo Rapoo as their main left back and they wanted the more experienced Mashiane in that position. Now they are back on for him and then there is AmaZulu who want him to cover for Riaan Hanamub. And remember coach Arthur Zwane knows him better and believes in him. So it will all depend on negotiations with Chiefs and the clubs," the Siya source stated.

A second insider stated that the 26-year-old could leave as a free agent if his contract with Chiefs ends in June 2025 and there are no talks for a renewal.

"They could lose him for free. Yes, his contract expires in June 2025 and he hasn't heard anything from the club. Also, remember he is like third choice at the club in the left back position with Bradley Cross and Bongani Sam ahead of him. And they signed both players while he was there and that showed that his future is on the edge at the club and now with two clubs looking at his services he could leave for free," the second Siya source stated.

So far this season, Mashiane has struggled to break into the team. He was promoted to the senior team in 2019 on a three-year contract, which was renewed for another three years in 2022 and is expiring in June 2025.

Soccer Laduma contacted AmaZulu, SuperSport United and Chiefs for comment, but these clubs didn't respond at the time of preparing this story. As Mashiane's contract nears its end, the interest from the two PSL clubs highlights his potential value.
