Kaizer Chiefs’ reign in the CAF Champions League is well and truly over, but Sunday’s exit could certainly be a blessing in disguise. Why? Because the focus is now purely on the league race.
At the start of the campaign, the club was hesitant in participating in the Champions League after having relinquished the title last term due to their commitments in the CCL.
Sundowns managed to overtake Chiefs in the last nine games of the season and pipped them to the Absa Premiership title, and there were fears that the same story could unfold this term.
Nonetheless, the club and fans need not fear that this will happen again, as now Chiefs can fully focus on the league.
Only six games remain until the league concludes, and that is more than enough time for Stuart Baxter and his charges to wrap up their second domestic title in the space of three seasons.
The primary reason for Chiefs having slipped up last year was due to their taxing schedule in CAF competitions, as well as the league and the Nedbank Cup, but with only league games on their calendar, a title victory is in the Glamour Boys’ reach.
Fear not Amakhosi, we have seen the club’s form suffer in 2015, but there is no chance they will throw away the title again this season.
From here on out, it is all about the league race… We will be champions! Do you believe it is possible?
