Hello fellow Buccaneers! The year has started off with a bang for Orlando Pirates, and it is slowly starting to see the emergence of Oupa Manyisa, who was playing in a more advanced role.
It’s no secret that a lot of the Ghosts were not happy with Manyisa's dip in form, and many of us contributed that to his being linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns.
With the move having failed to materialise, the pressure was on him to return back to his creative self and brush aside all the transfer rumours that plagued him in January.
In Saturday’s match against Platinum Stars, Manyisa finally started to show glimpses of his old self, and his performance saw him named the Man of the Match.
This was due to him bagging two assists, where he set up Lehlohonolo Majoro’s opener before inspiring the attacking run of play for Lennox Bacela’s extra-time goal.
Outside of his two assists, Manyisa took to a more advanced role behind the strikers where he played with precision and flare, and saw a total of 88.64% of his passes successful - with 77% of those being forward played balls.
It certainly is refreshing to see Manyisa adopting a more advanced role with such ease and that this position has helped him to fully express himself adequately.
Ghosts, what did you make of Manyisa’s display? Do you think he should play behind the strikers more often?
