Pirates' Strategy To Sign Stellies Star?

Orlando Pirates are seeking to bolster their defensive line-up and have set their sights on a Stellenbosch FC player, the Siya crew has been informed.

Stellies right back, Deano Van Rooyen is the player in question. Siya sources have indicated that in pursuit of strengthening their squad, Bucs are considering a significant offer that includes both a player and cash in exchange for Van Rooyen.

Sources close to the negotiations have added that Pirates have proposed players as part of a potential exchange deal.

"It's clear what Pirates want but they are only waiting for Stellies to say which defender they want amongst the ones that Pirates want to loan out or exchange with them. Yes, the names which came up are Thabiso Monyane, Sandile Mthethwa and Bandile Shandu. So, it will be money and a player of course. That's the offer Pirates have made at the moment. Now, all that remains is for Stellenbosch to respond," the Siya source stated.

The deal is not agreed yet, with both clubs looking to finalise terms before the registration window closes in September, according to a second insider.

"Doubts were still there as talks continued when Pirates were in Spain because the Stellenbosch FC CEO (Rob Benadie) said that their players are not for sale but the final decision is expected in the next few days or weeks depending on what they agree. Yes, it's not a sealed deal yet but things are looking positive at this stage," the second source told Soccer Laduma.

Van Rooyen, 27, has been a consistent performer for Stellenbosch in the last two seasons. His reliability and defensive prowess make him a valuable target for Pirates as they look to reinforce their squad for their upcoming challenges in the PSL and Africa.

Soccer Laduma reached out to Stellenbosch for comments on a potential transfer, but there was no response at the time of publishing.
