Today marks the third year since the passing of South African football legend John 'Shoes' Moshoeu, and in light of his memory, we take a look at the legacy Shoes left for his adoring fans.
Moshoeu's talent was there for everyone to see as he made his presence felt in local football whist playing for Giant Blackpool from 1987 to 1992. As is the case with many talented footballers in South Africa, the big boys came knocking and Shoes opted to join Kaizer Chiefs in 1993.
Turkey was Shoes' next destination, and he played in the country for a big part of his career. The Bafana legend put on the colours of Genclerbirligi, Kocaelispor, Fenerbahce and Bursaspor in a 10-year stint in Europe.
A move back home was then on the cards as a 37-year-old Shoes rejoined Chiefs in 2002. Despite approaching 40, the mind was there… and the feet were definitely there too.

Shoes and the likes of Collins Mbesuma, Jabulani Mendu, Tinashe Nengomasha and the mythical Scara Ngobese thrilled Amakhosi fans with their entertaining football.
Till this day, he remains the oldest goalscorer in the PSL. In 2008, he joined AmaZulu at 41, and found himself scoring against none other than the mighty Amakhosi.
Shoes' love for the game still glowed like embers despite the flame of youth being long gone as he played for Alex United in the Vodacom League between 2011 and 2014.
Shoes was also the oldest player to represent Bafana Bafana, having played his last game for the national team against Tunisia in 2004, at the age of 38.
He played for Bafana on 73 occasions and was an important member of the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations side that went all the way and won the competition.
Today, three years ago, he died of cancer. May he continue to rest in peace.
Thank you for the memories, Shoes!
