Getting to know Mudau

Khuliso "Sailor" Mudau was featured on the latest Sundowns magazine, where they spoke about his football and other interesting facts about the 28-year-old.

After a stellar showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Mudau is ready to chase more trophies with Masandawana, mentioning that winning the league, Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League would be "fulfilling".

Before becoming a star performer at Downs, Sailor made his way through the ranks with JDR Stars, Magesi FC and Black Leopards. He was also once part of the Swallows Academy, and the Sundowns development structures.

He gave credit to his parents for their support in his pursuit to become a professional footballer:

"I was here before. It was a long journey for me. Obviously, I wanted to come back and play here at Mamelodi Sundowns. I am very happy that I am back and trying to help the team achieve big things. My parents gave me the support not to give up, and I also had to make them proud."

Since joining Downs in 2020, Mudau was walked away with three league titles, the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup, and more recently, the inaugural African Football League.

Here are the five interesting facts about Mudau, revealed in his feature with Sundowns' magazine:

1. The PUMA sponsored star explained why he only needs two boots per matchday:

"I take two pairs to matches – one with normal studs and one with different studs to adapt on the wet surface," he said.

2. He's not related to legends Daniel Mudau and Johannes Mudau, but takes his surname's legacy in football seriously:

"I need to make sure that I carry the surname very well," he stated.

3. Mudau's pre-match meal is a simple one:

"Sailor's favourite pre-match meal is pasta, mince, and vegetables," mentioned Sundowns' mag.

4. With Sundowns always on the road, Mudau only needs a couple of gadgets to kill time:

"[He travels with] mainly his MacBook and air pods for entertainment."

5. Mudau has seen a lot of Africa on his travels with Bafana and Downs. Next year's AFCON hosts, Morocco, is Sailor's favourite destination.
