The story

Next week, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) will host its autumn graduation series, welcoming over 7 000 graduands.

As per CPUT's statement, the university is set to honour the accomplishments of 6 373 undergraduates and 735 postgraduates across 14 ceremonies, taking place from 22 to 26 April.

Notably, on Thursday, Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis will be bestowed with an honorary doctorate for her contribution to sport.

This gesture from CPUT sees them follow in the footsteps of the University of Johannesburg for conferring decorated Abha Club coach Pitso Mosimane with an honorary doctorate, and the University of Cape Town honouring Kaizer Chiefs founder, Kaizer Motaung.

CPUT's statement mentioned how her remarkable contributions as a professional athlete and Head Coach of South Africa's women's football team, have established her as a prominent figure in both the African and global sports community.
