With Oupa Manyisa supposedly expected to part ways with Orlando Pirates within the coming days, the club was gearing up to sign Robert Ng'ambi as his natural replacement. However, a spanner has been thrown into the works.
Both deals, which would see Manyisa join Downs and Ng'ambi arrive at Parktown, looked all set and done, but with the Malawian now penning in a one-year extension with Platinum Stars, a deal looks unlikely.
Ng'ambi, whose deal with Stars was meant to expire in June this year, was expected to join Pirates at a reduced fee in January or arrive on a free in July. However, this will no longer be the case as the club and him exercised his one-year option to extend.
This, of course, doesn't stop Pirates from still signing him at a raised price, but it now seems unlikely after it was confirmed by Soccer Laduma's Siya Crew that Ng'ambi would prefer either Wits or SuperSport United.
If these reports are true, this means that Pirates will have to return to the drawing board in finding another replacement for Manyisa. Let the brainstorming begin…
Who do you think Pirates should look to as Manyisa's heir?
