Motsepe Reveals His True Feelings On Eto'o

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has had his say on Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto'o (left).

CAF president Patrice Motsepe has made his true feelings on Samuel Eto'o known after the Cameroon legend was elected to the African football organising body's Executive Committee.

CAF held their 14th Extraordinary General Assembly on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt, with the organisation hosting an elective congress for a number of roles, including CAF president.

The reigning president of the body, Motsepe, was elected for a second term unopposed, and his term will now run until 2029.

There were other elective positions up for grabs, including members of the CAF Executive Committee and six representatives of Africa in the FIFA Council.

Notably, Eto'o was successfully elected as a member of the Executive Committee, with the decision coming just days after he became eligible to run for the role following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Initially, CAF denied Eto'o, who is the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), the opportunity to run for the election as they deemed him ineligible.

The four-time CAF Footballer of the Year appealed the decision at CAS, who later ruled in favour of Eto'o and ordered CAF to include him among the electoral nominees for the Executive Committee.

With Eto'o having now come up trumps, Motsepe insists that everything that happened recently should be put in the past.

"I am very proud of Samuel Eto'o, I have been proud of him for many years and I will continue to be," said the South African billionaire, according to Camfoot.

"Samuel Eto'o was elected as one of the leaders. The most important thing is to support him.

"The Executive Committee made a decision that was overturned by CAS. We must ensure that everything that happened with Eto'o in the past remains in the past. It should not be held against him.

"I think he has a contribution to make. Cameroonian football under Eto'o's leadership will return to its glory days."
