Pirates To Consider Rotation Ahead Of Crucial Fixtures

Orlando Pirates are preparing for a crucial week of fixtures, and head coach Jose Riveiro is expected to rotate his squad to manage fatigue and keep his team competitive.

After a gruelling 120-minute battle against SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, which ended in a penalty shootout victory, the Buccaneers must quickly shift focus to their league match against Stellenbosch FC on Tuesday.

Sources indicate that Riveiro is considering squad changes to maintain freshness, especially with a high-stakes encounter against log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns looming on Sunday. With Pirates aiming to close the gap in the title race, defeating Sundowns would be a massive boost, especially given their four games in hand.

Defensive reinforcements could come in the form of Nkosinathi Sibisi, who is available for selection after serving a suspension.

Additionally, Olisa Ndah may return to the squad after a prolonged injury absence, bolstering the team's defensive options.

Meanwhile, Deano van Rooyen, who featured as a substitute against SuperSport, could play a key role against his former club, Stellenbosch.

Pirates' attacking options may also see adjustments, with Tshegofatsa Mabasa and Kabelo Dlamini potentially set for more game time after being unused substitutes in the last match. Furthermore, the Buccaneers have received a boost with Zakhele Lepasa nearing full fitness, and he could make his first appearance of the season in the coming fixtures.

With such a demanding schedule, Riveiro's squad depth will be tested as Pirates seek to balance their cup ambitions with their league aspirations.

Managing player fitness and maintaining momentum will be key as they chase both silverware and a strong league finish.

"It's that time of the season and you can expect that (rotation) as the games are coming thick and fast. The good thing is that some of the players that have been injured are coming back and that will help (in making team selections)," said the source.
