Bafana Bafana progressed to the next round of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers after defeating Egypt 3-1 on Sunday night.

CHAN Qualifier

Result: Egypt 1-3 South Africa (2-4 aggregate)

Date: 09 March 2025

Venue: Suez Canal Stadium

Coach Molefi Ntseki rang the changes from the first leg as Victor Letsoalo, Aiden McCarthy, Sammy Seabi and Kwanda Mngonyama were drafted back into the side.

Letsoalo was only drafted into the squad this week as one of three reinforcements after the team released Monnapule Saleng, Nduduzo Mhlongo, Naledi Hlongwane, and Azola Tshobeni after the first leg.

Bafana got off the perfect start after taking the lead after 15 minutes as captain Neo Mama pounced a lay-off in the box before volleying home from close range.

It got better for the South Africans ten minutes later as Yandisa Mfolozi found the back of the net, although the Egyptian pulled one back in the 32nd minute through Mohamed Abou-El Enein.

However, Bafana restored their two-goal advantage five minutes into the second half when Siphelele Luthuli converted a penalty to make it 3-1 on the night and 4-2 on aggregate.

The Pharaohs looked for a way back into the contest as the second progress and were camped in the Bafana half for the final 20 minutes of the contest, but they were unable to find a clear-cut opening.

Here's how they line up:

South Africa: Mpoto, Mngonyama, Baloyi, Mfolozi, McCarthy, Seabi, Luthuli, Webber, Maema, Mashego, Letsoalo

Subs: Xulu, Sithebe, Teto, Mini, Mashiane, Matodzi, Smith
