Royal AM Players Abscond? Nedbank Cup Is Over

Royal AM have been booted out of the Nedbank Cup without kicking a ball, but the Siya crew understands that their problems continue to grow, with a few players believed to have absconded.

The KZN outfit was due to face Motsepe Foundation Championship side Milford in the last round of 32, but with the controversy surrounding owner Shauwn Mkhize, they have not been able to honour the fixture. This means that Milford will now host Sekhukhune United in a last 16 match at Princess Magogo Stadium this Sunday.

A curator, meanwhile, was appointed by the South African Revenue Services to run Royal AM following the revelation that Mkhize owes the taxman R40 million.

SARS has put the club on sale, with bidding starting at R15 million. Indications are that players have been training in preparation for a possible return to action once the club is purchased.

A source has revealed to the Siya crew that there are certain players who have absconded because of all the uncertainty surrounding the club.

"Yes, they have been training, but some players have absconded. They don't want to go back because they are influenced by the reports that they are seeing. Some are pushing for moves out of the club, so it's a big mess. But the (other) players have been training," a source told the Siya crew.

A second source informed the Siya crew that there are interested parties.

"I know they have an offer or two to sell the club. That I know 100 percent. It's just that everything is up in the air. Anything can still happen. So yes, there are some interested parties."
