Liverpool restored their seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League after defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Result: Liverpool 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Date: 16 February 2025

Venue: Anfield

Reds coach Arne Slot made two changes from the draw with Everton as Trent Alexander-Arnold returned at right-back while Diogo Jota replaced Cody Gakpo, who missed out completely through injury.

The home side got off to a lively start after bagging the opening goal in the 15th minute as Luis Diaz bundled the ball home from close range after Mohamed Salah's was saved by Jose Sa.

While Wolves struggled to carve out chances, the Reds went close to doubling their lead in the 27th minute as Dominik Szoboszlai sent his strike inches wide of the upright, before Jota saw his strike saved by Sa minutes later.

The home side would go on to be awarded a penalty ten minutes before the break after Sa had brought down Diaz in the box, which allowed Salah to step up and calmly slot home to double the lead.

Wolves made a change at the start of the second half as Munetsi came on for his league debut and he could have pulled a goal back four minutes in after being played through on goal, but the Zimbabwean was denied by Alisson in a one-on-one situation.

The visitors did pull one back in the 66th minute as the talismanic Matheus Cunha carved out some space on the edge of the box before finding the far corner with a curling effort from distance.

Wolves went close to silencing Anfield in the 88th minute when Tommy Doyle slipped down the right of box before trying to pick out Munesti, but Jarell Quansah popped up with vital interception in the six-yard area to secure the win.
