Eto'o Reveals What He Told Motsepe About CAF Top Job

Samuel Eto'o has revealed what he told Dr. Patrice Motsepe about also becoming a CAF executive.

Samuel Eto'o has revealed what he told CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe about potentially also being an executive of African football's governing body.

It seems likely that the South African philanthropist will retain his post as the head of CAF after he was the sole individual to announce his candidacy for the next presidential election.

With a new term in the presidency, however, comes a new executive committee, and a man who has been vocal about his desire to be among the institution's chiefs is former Barcelona and Inter Milan superstar Eto'o.

The 43-year-old's tenure as president of the Cameroonian Football Federation has perhaps been tainted with allegations of match-fixing, but he insists that as long as he has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing, he is still eligible to be an exco member. He even claims to have told Motsepe that his inclusion would be beneficial for African football.

"I think we have the video of my hearing last time at CAF and it was a sham, it was a theatre," the football icon told RFI.

"It was anything but justice. We love our continent and we advocate that things should be done politically in a certain way but the basic rules must be respected.

"Whether at CAF or elsewhere, we have appealed and no one can prevent me from being a candidate for the executive committee because there are still several bodies that have to decide and as long as they are not decided, I am not convicted and I must be able to be a candidate.

"If ever the ultimate body condemns me and I know that I will not be convicted because we have enough evidence to prove our innocence, then I do not know why they will try to politically prevent me from making my contribution to African football.

"I told President Motsepe. I told him dad, it is good and beautiful to have a Samuel Eto'o who tries to shake up mentalities in your executive committee."
