Sundowns Make Breakthrough In Star Negotiations

Sundowns Make Breakthrough In Star Negotiations

After months of discussions and negotiations, Mamelodi Sundowns and one of their key players are believed to have reached an agreement on a new three-year contract, the Siya crew has been informed.

Insiders close to the club have indicated that the Brazilians are strengthening their hold on their most experienced striker, Peter Shalulile with an improved deal.

The discussions, as previously reported by Soccer Laduma, have been ongoing behind the scenes.

"For now, we can say the deal is as good as done. Yes, the talks have been going on for some time now and all the involved parties are happy now. The club wants to keep him and the player wants to stay and that's why they have agreed to a three-year new deal. This new contract will run until June 2028," the Siya source stated.

A second insider mentioned that interest in Shalulile from clubs in the Gulf States remains, but Sundowns are not prepared to let him leave yet.

"Since the first time they showed interest in him, it has still been there and that's the other reason the club has moved fast in tying him down so that he is not a free agent to move to the Middle East. So, the three-year deal will make sure that they have control over the player as they still need him at the club. You know among the current strikers he is the most experienced and they need that experience in the team hence they are keeping him for a longer period," the second source observed.

The 31-year-old Namibian joined Sundowns from Highlands Park in 2021, initially signing a four-year contract which is set to expire in June next year. This season, with the signing of Iqraam Rayners, there has not been the same type of reliance on Shalulile as there was in the past.

By securing Shalulile's services with a new contract, Sundowns could reinforce their forward line with experience and skill. As they continue to compete at the highest levels, Shalulile's leadership and scoring ability will be pivotal to their success in the coming seasons.
