With all the clubs competing in the revamped Club World Cup now aware of their respective groups, they can begin to prepare for the competition accordingly.

The Red Castle appear to be proactive in this regard. Of all the African teams in the tournament, they perhaps face the toughest group, having been pitted against Juventus, Manchester City and Al Ain.

It has been rumoured that Wydad president Hicham Ait Menna wants to recruit mainly from the Moroccan national team to be competitive in their group and has already contacted players from the Atlas Lions in an effort to sign them.

Players such as Azzedine Ounahi, former Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech, and an ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers defender are said to have been contacted.

However, it is another former English top-flight star who has reportedly agreed to make the move to Casablanca.

According to Al-Ahdath Al-Maghribia, former Southampton winger Sofiane Boufal has preliminarily agreed to sign for the three-time African champions.

It is alleged that Wydad and Boufal's representatives are now in intense negotiations to finalise the terms of the mooted short-term deal.

However, the expectation is that the 31-year-old will fully commit to joining Mokwena as the North African giants look to make their mark on the world stage.
