An English-based club has expressed interest in another Mamelodi Sundowns star, according to insiders privy to information.

The player in question is Brazilian forward Lucas Ribeiro Costa. Insiders close to the club have indicated that Burnley FC, an English Championship side, are believed to be among those keen on acquiring Ribeiro Costa's services.

The insiders added that Ribeiro Costa has attracted attention from several European clubs, with Burnley FC now said to be joining that list of interested parties.

"What I can tell you is that there is a Championship club in England is interested in Lucas (Ribeiro Costa). They have inquired about him and they are not the only club that have inquired about him. His performances have not gone unnoticed as even his former club in Belgium (Beveren) has asked about him. There is a lot of interest in him," the Siya source stated.

However, a second insider stated that Sundowns are determined to retain one of their key players so it won't be easy for any club to prize him away from the South African champions.

"Although there is interest from Europe including that from Burnley FC of England, Sundowns are not really wiling to let him go. He is one player that they can fight to keep at all cost. They know the value he brings to the team and the squad and both management and the technical team are happy with his contribution to the team and that's why they want to hold onto him despite the interest from Europe," the second source stated.

Last season marked Ribeiro Costa's debut in the PSL, where he was quite impressive with his performances and contributions to goals.

This season, the 26-year-old has continued his impressive form. His growing interest from European clubs underscores his remarkable impact at Sundowns. As he continues to excel in the PSL, the club faces the challenge of balancing external interest with their internal objectives, determined to retain their star striker for future successes.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.
