CAF 'Responds' To Major Request Ahead Of Downs Clash

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reportedly responded to a major request by Moroccan outfit AS FAR Rabat for their upcoming clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to Le Site Info Sports, African football's governing body has denied the Royal Army's request to move their looming continental clash against Masandawana from the Stade El Abdi in El Jadida to the Stade d'Honneur in the city of Meknes.

Various stadiums in Morocco are undergoing refurbishments ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by the home of the Atlas Lions.

While Meknes is not one of the tournament's host cities, it is alleged that its stadium has also undergone renovations to comply with CAF regulations.

It appears the revamped stadium is the preferred venue for last season's Botola Pro Inwi runners-up, who reportedly want to face Ka Bo Yellow in Meknes.

However, the same report states that Sundowns also refused the request as they have already made the necessary logistical arrangements to stay near a resort outside the capital of the Doukkala region.

It is understood that the Moroccan giants wish to move their matches to the Stade d'Honneur because a significant portion of their supporters resides in that region.

They also intend to play their home matches against AS Maniema Union and Raja Club Athletic at the venue.

So far in Group B, AS FAR are the only team with three points following their opening matchday victory over Green Eagles. Sundowns will now aim to follow suit as they prepare to travel to North Africa.
