Would Chiefs Go For Appollis, Or Mokwana If He Was 'Free'?

Would Chiefs Go For Appollis, Or Mokwana If He Was 'Free'?

A week ago there was a possibility that Bafana Bafana and Esperance de Tunis player Elias Mokwana could have become a free agent, presenting an opportunity for Kaizer Chiefs to sign him, as reported in the local media.

Since then Soccer Laduma reported how Esperance had resolved the potential breach in contract with Mokwana and that he'd remain in Tunisia. Though, the South African's representatives warned that the star forward should not find himself in that predicament again.

So, would Amakhosi be in for Mokwana if he has contractual problems in the future, making him a free agent, or if he becomes available for any reason?

Siya sources close to Naturena have indicated that the club has moved on from pursuing Mokwana.

The insiders added that even if Mokwana was a free agent, they would not consider signing him now, as they are focusing on other targets.

"No. The club is no longer interested in Elias Mokwana now. It's very true they wanted him before he left for Tunisia but now they are over that. Their main focus now is on a different winger and a striker. That winger Chiefs want is Oswin Appollis. If you talk about going for Appollis I can agree with you, but as for Elias, no. They are not looking into that," said the Siya source.

"Even when reports indicated that he could be a free agent, the club was not interested to hear or look into that. That chapter for them is finished. Maybe in the future, because you don't know, what life holds for us, but not any time soon," the source added.

A second insider stated that the club hierarchy is doing all they can to bring Appollis to the club in January.

"This is what is giving them almost sleepless nights. It's Appollis and at least one striker in January. I think this is the hardest assignment at the moment as well as the whole management. That's their main focus and target. So, Elias Mokwana is out of the of the picture as they are working hard to make sure they can get Appollis," the second source stated.

Amakhosi have been on the hunt for a winger and a striker since the arrival of coach Nasreddine Nabi, and they haven't signed one yet, as the Siya crew has documented in recent months on Soccer Laduma.

On Thursday, the Siya crew also reported how Orlando Pirates may have a say in the matter, regarding Appollis' signature, due to their relationship with Polokwane City.

This publication contacted Chiefs for comment but there was no response at the time of preparing this story. As Amakhosi focus on attempting to secure Appollis and a striker, the club's transfer strategy aligns with the priorities set by coach Nabi.
