There are a number of PSL players in the Bafana Bafana squad who will be at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but they are not the only locally based players who will be in Morocco next year for the competition.

Bafana finished top of Group K ahead of Uganda, who have also booked their spot in the competition for the first time since 2019. The Cranes have Golden Arrows goalkeeper Ismail Watenga in their squad and he is expected to be part of the team when the competition takes place next year. Venda FC goalkeeper Charles Lukwago is in the Ugandan squad as back-up.

Richards Bay goalkeeper Salim Magoola has not been part of the Ugandan squad recently and it remains to be seen if he will get a chance to return.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Dilthokwe has led Botswana to qualification for only their second time in history, as they finished as runners-up to Egypt in Group C.

Defending champions Ivory Coast have also booked their spot at AFCON after finishing second behind Zambia in Group G. Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare was on the bench as the Ivorians hammered Chad 4-0 on Tuesday and he could form part of the team next year.

Zimbabwe will be back in the competition for the first time since 2021 after finishing second behind five-time African champions Cameroon.

Mamelodi Sundowns' Divine Lunga, Marumo Gallants' Washington Arubi and Douglas Mapfumo of Polokwane City started on Tuesday evening as Zimbabwe went down 2-1 to Cameroon, but the Warriors had already booked a spot in the competition. Gallants' Daniel Msendami and SuperSport United forward Terrence Dzvukamanja were on the bench against Cameroon and will be hoping to make the final squad next year.

Mapfumo's teammate at City, goalkeeper Manuel Sapunga, is part of the Equatorial Guinea side that has qualified.

Orlando Pirates winger Gilberto has qualified for the competition with Angola, who finished top of Group F ahead of second-placed Sudan.

Gilberto's Pirates teammate, defender Olisa Ndah, was part of the Nigerian squad until he picked up an injury not so long ago, but he is expected to return in 2025 and will have a lot of work to do to get back into a Super Eagles team that has a lot of quality.

Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove, who has been out with an injury, will be hoping he makes it back in time to form part of the Mozambican squad that has qualified.
