Euro Giants 'Keen' To Sign Ballon d'Or Winner Rodri

Euro Giants 'Keen' To Sign Ballon d'Or Winner Rodri

An elite European side is reportedly keen to lure recently crowned Ballon d'Or winner Rodri away from Manchester City.

Earlier this week, the holding midfielder became only the second-ever Spaniard to be crowned the best player in the world.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a successful 2023/24 in which he won the Premier League title with the Citizens and helped his nation win a record-setting fourth 2024 UEFA European Championship.

Many presumed that Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior would grab the prize for his accomplishments last season, but ultimately it was given the deep-lying playmaker.

Los Blancos' representatives thus did not attend the award ceremony because they found out that the Brazilian was poised to miss out on the Golden Ball, but after one of their talismans failed to bring the Ballon d'Or back to the Santiago Bernabeu, the European champions are now rumoured to want to bring the best player in the world to Madrid.

According to Diario AS, Real want to sign Rodri as they look to find a replacement for Toni Kroos.

The record UEFA Champions League winners are aware that the 57-cap Spain international's contract in England only expires in 2027, but are hopeful that City's ongoing Financial Fair Play trial, the exit of club sporting director Txiki Begiristain and the possible departure of Pep Guardiola could all play a role in unsettling the former Atletico Madrid man.

While the Spaniard may be tempted to return to his hometown, the same report claims that the Sky Blues are willing to make him among the highest-paid players at the club alongside Erling Haaland and Phil Foden in order to fend off any potential suitors.
