Al Ahly Chief: We Will Renew Tau Contract If...

The Bafana Bafana winger is in the final year of his deal at the home of the Club of the Century.

The 30-year-old joined the Egyptian giants in 2021 and has been an integral part of the side since Pitso Mosimane brought him to the club from Brighton Hove Albion.

He has won a total of 11 titles so far with the Red Devils, but as he nears the expiry of his existing deal, it remains to be seen whether or not he will be able to add to the impressive tally of trophies with the record African champions.

Earlier this year, there was intense speculation linking him with various clubs on the African continent and in the Gulf region, but for the time being he has stayed put at the Cairo International Stadium.

Whether that continues to be the case is seemingly up to Ahly head coach Marcel Koller. That is according to club sporting director Mohamed Ramadan who has given some background on the expiring contracts of various players at the club.

Speaking about the former Mamelodi Sundowns man in particular, as per Cairo24, he said: "Percy Tau is among the players whose contracts expire at the end of the season, but the renewal matter is certainly linked to the vision of Al Ahly's technical director. We will make the most appropriate decision in the player's file in co-ordination with Koller."

So far in the new campaign, the Witbank native has scored twice in five appearances, and should he continue to find the back of the net with regularity, then perhaps it will prompt the Swiss tactician to want to keep a hold of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medallist beyond this campaign.
