Ex-Esteghlal Star Hopes Mosimane's Tactics Work

Ex-Esteghlal Star Hopes Mosimane's Tactics Work

A former Esteghlal star hopes Pitso Mosimane's tactics to try to motivate his new team work as the South African looks to earn his first win in Iran.

The 60-year-old tactician tore into his players after he took charge of his first game as head of the Capital Blues.

In that game, the Persian Gulf Pro giants suffered a second successive defeat, losing 3-1 to Kheybar Khorramabad.

The result leaves last season's league runners-up three points off the relegation zone, and after the match, the former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician questioned the side's mentality.

It seems that one of the solutions the Kagiso native has suggested in shifting the culture at the club is to introduce more young players to the first-team fold.

The three-time CAF Champions League winner has been slated for his comments after their latest defeat, but Esteghlal legend Abbas Sarkhab hopes this scare tactic works in order to get the team back to winning ways.

"We are not present at the team's training, and we cannot give a firm opinion about this, but in general, we can see that Mosimane felt that some players of Esteghlal have false pride," Sarkhab admitted, as per Khabarvarzeshi.

"When players reach this state of indifference to their team's games, nothing can be done except punishment, fines or putting younger players next to them.

"The young player has a lot of motivation and shows up in training and domestic matches with great energy, so it can be a serious alarm for experienced players.

"I hope this trick of Mr. Mosimane will be effective and he can get the necessary result in the match against Tractor with younger players and, of course, more mobility in experienced players."

Esteghlal's next league match is on Thursday evening against Tractor SC, who are currently in third position. The Tehran-based side have lost only one of their last nine against their next opponents, so Mosimane will likely be hoping he can get the club back to winning ways against them.
