In a significant ruling on Sunday, the Cairo Criminal Court has sentenced Ahmed Yasser Mohammedi to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a young woman.

The case came to light following a complaint from the victim, prompting authorities to launch a thorough investigation, according to KingFut

Mohammedi was initially released pending further medical examination of the woman, aimed at verifying her claims and the charges against him.

Reports indicate that the 30-year-old was arrested in Sharm El-Sheikh and taken into custody at the Abdeen police station in Cairo.

During the investigation, Mohammedi claimed to have had a relationship with the woman, but vehemently denied any allegations of sexual assault, contradicting her accusations that he lured her to his apartment where the alleged incident took place.

Holding dual Egyptian and Qatari nationalities, Mohammedi has spent the majority of his professional career in Qatar, playing for Al-Duhail before representing current club Al-Rayyan.

He previously made his mark with Egypt's U20 national team in 2011 while preparing for the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Rwanda, before opting to play for Qatar, for whom he has earned 23 caps since.
