Cristiano Ronaldo's former manager has backed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to reach the historic 1 000-career goals mark.

During the September international break, the legendary Portuguese marksman became the first man in football history to score 900 goals in official matches when he found the back of the net against Croatia.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward has since admitted he would like to reach the 1 000-goal mark.
Now 39 years old, it remains to be seen how much longer he can play in the hopes of achieving the lofty goal.
His former boss at Al Nassr, Luis Castro, claims that a lot of things would need to go in Ronaldo's favour if he is to reach the legendary mark, but backs him to do it.
"It won't depend on him, but on the context," Castro told Record. "We tried to 'get the best' out of Cris and we managed to get him to finish 2023 as the year's top scorer.
"I hope he has a favourable environment and surpasses that mark."
Ronaldo scored 47 goals and provided 16 assists in all competitions playing under Castro, and the Portuguese tactician was extremely impressed with his compatriot's work ethic while together in Saudi Arabia.
"Cristiano was, is and will always be determined to be the best," he added. "You can see it every day in training. He has a constant desire to play, to break records, to score the most beautiful goals.

"When you're around him, you understand why he's such a phenomenon. He continues to be decisive in everything he does. He knows that football has given him almost everything and he has a great love for it."
