Transfer Update: Lamine Yamal

With Lamine Yamal having only 18 months left on his current deal at Barcelona, here is the latest on the teenage superstar's future.

The club firmly believes its grip on Spanish prodigy Lamine Yamal is "bulletproof", with expectations that the talented winger will extend his contract until 2030, according to Mundo Deportivo sources.

After making his debut last year, he signed a new deal in October 2023, securing his future at the club until 2026, complete with an eye-watering release clause of €1 billion (R19.2 billion).

Due to his age, he could not commit to a longer deal, but plans are in place for him to sign an extension once he turns 18 next July.

With interest ramping up from clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, who have reportedly made bids of around €200 million (£217 million) for services, Barcelona are eager to tie Lamine Yamal down to a long-term deal, and confident they will have no issue doing so.

While he may technically be a free agent in a year and a half's time, Barcelona's confidence stems from a verbal agreement with his representatives, including super-agent Jorge Mendes, with whom Laporta has a solid working relationship.

The young star has consistently expressed his desire to remain at the club where he has developed since the age of seven. In a recent appearance on the late night show El Hormiguero, Lamine Yamal commented on his soaring market value, saying: "I hope I can never leave Barca; I want to be a legend of the club."
