Makaab Hits Back At 'Out Of Order' Broos!

Makaab Hits Back At 'Out Of Order' Broos!

GQEBERHA, SOUTH AFRICA - OCTOBER 11: Hugo Broos, Head Coach, of South Africa during the 2025 African Cup of Nations, Qualifier match between South Africa and Republic of Congo at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on October 11, 2024 in Gqeberha, South Africa. (Photo by Richard Huggard/Gallo Images)

Mike Makaab, the agent of Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi says Hugo Broos is out of order for his statements made about the Brazilians mentor in the matter of Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau.

For the past few weeks, Broos has been critical of Mngqithi's decision to sideline the duo at Sundowns, despite their importance to the national team.

In the recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Belgian has selected both Mokoena and Mudau, though he has expressed his concern about their lack of game time at Sundowns.

But Mngqithi's representative Makaab has jumped to his defence, stating that Broos' comments towards his client were uncalled for and that these decisions are not made in isolation but with the support of the Sundowns technical team and the club's management.

"What I can tell you about Manqoba (Mngqithi) and I've been with him for 12 years. He's not a man who holds grudges. He's not a man who has his favourites. Manqoba realizes that he will be judged by one thing and one thing alone - his results," he told Gagasi FM.

"He has to put out the best players that he believes can deliver for him. There had to be, and I don't know the reason, there had to be a reason for him sidelining Mokoena and Mudau. You saw Mudau came on and had a fantastic period of the game when he was reintroduced into the Sundowns team and that shows you that there's no ill feeling between the player and the coach. You know this nonsense about the hype around the picture of Mokoena pointing to himself and saying 'I am the man', I find absolutely laughable.

"You know, I understand Hugo Broos' frustration. But let's put it another way. Imagine if Jose Riveiro publicly stated that he could not understand why Hugo Broos wasn't selecting Patrick Maswanganyi on the basis of what he was achieving at club level.

"I understand that Broos needs his best players available, but for him to make those sort of utterances, is out of order. Manqoba is not an island. You've got Steve Komphela. You've got the sporting director you've got the Chairman of the club. These are the people that that sit down and make these big decisions. And I know the mechanics behind the workings of football teams, and particularly big football teams," he added.
