Yanga Fans Eager For CAFCL Revenge On Sundowns

Yanga Fans Eager For CAFCL Revenge On Sundowns

Many Young Africans fans want to see their team meet Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League once again.

Young Africans fans are hoping to encounter Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League again after they were narrowly eliminated by the South African champions last season.

Last season, Masandawana managed to reach successive semi-finals in Africa's premier club competition for the first time in their history, and this came at Yanga's expense.

The Pretoria-based outfit advanced from the quarter-final tie after winning 3-2 on penalties as the counter ended 0-0 on aggregate.

Sundown's progression was certainly not without controversy, though.

Yanga talisman Stephane Aziz Ki hit a thunderous strike in the 59th minute of the second leg, which looked as though it had crossed the line.

Referee on the evening, Dahane Beida, went to consult the VAR on the decision to not give the goal, but after further inspection, the original verdict was upheld and Ronwen Williams' heroics ensured that Sundowns made it to yet another final-four berth.

Yanga supporters have seemingly not forgotten how the aforementioned match transpired, with many of them desperate to see an avenging of what they feel was an unjust defeat at Loftus Versfeld.

The 2024/25 CAFCL group-stage draw is set to take place on 7 October, and with Sundowns in Pot 1 and Yanga in Pot 2, there is the possibility that they could meet in the group stage, something that one of their supporters, Juma Hassan, is keen to witness.

Speaking to The Citizen, Hassan said: "It is our dream to face them and seek revenge. Last time, we were missing key players, but now we are stronger.

"In fact, the whole world knows that we were better than them, but they were lucky to have the officiation team on their side for unknown reasons."
