Pirates Set High Expectations for Riveiro?

News reaching the Siya crew is that after securing four trophies in two seasons, Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro looks set to face a new challenge.

According to sources close to the club, Pirates are believed to have issued a mandate to Riveiro for this season, with indications that the club has earmarked the league title and a quarter-final CAF Champions League finish, in addition to defending the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup.

Indications are that the Riveiro has his eye on the Premiership title.

"For the club, it's simple. Win as many trophies as you can, but include the league title in that. That's the biggest mandate and request from the club. They are happy with everything going on, but the only thing remaining is the league, and that's what the club wants the coach to deliver. This was discussed as soon as they won the Nedbank Cup against Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last season, and everyone at the club knows it. The main mandate for the coach is to at least win the league title this season," a source indicated to the Siya crew.

The Siya crew can reveal that according to sources, the failure to meet the mandate won't be the deciding factor in the coach's contract talks.

"Yes, it's true that new contract talks are ongoing, but the mandate to win the league is not attached to those talks. These are two separate issues. The mandate is there whether the contract is renewed or not. At the same time, it's not guaranteed that once you win the league title, you are safe and a new contract will be offered. These are separate issues that will be dealt with separately, but of course, the team wants to win the league title this season," the source added.

Pirates progressed to the group stage of the Champions League by beating Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy 2-0 in Gaborone in the second round first leg encounter, with the return leg set for Orlando Stadium this weekend.
